Who doesn’t want to be a damsel in distress! (I am a guy!)

If there is always I am saying in this blog, its that I love the VITA! It made me fell inlove again with Japan and their RPGS. They had a lot of those games and was a blast playing them. I was immersed to Japanese culture and it captured my heart.
During the mid cycle life of the Vita, JRPG’s was its staples. From Persona to the Trails series, it was the height of the Vita. Sony may have killed it, but 3rd party company like Atlus and NIS America made sure it survives.
But then, on the latter part of the Vita’s life, came a genre I was not aware of: OTOME. Without searching the internet, these games were gorgeous to look at and had catchy titles. There is one thing that sticks out on their cover art: a girl surrounded by guys (wholesomely).
The first Otome game I saw is Code: Realize. As you can see on the art, its beautiful. I researched on it and was suprised on the gameplay premise: You are a girl and all the men in the world wants you. Now lets pause for a moment: As a guy gamer, I can’t find any reason on why I should play this game. How can I handle being wooed by guys and how do I react? Then I stopped thinking deeply because s!@! might hit the fan without blinking twice.
Its a visual novel game. Thats the simplest description for Otome games. Gender just reversed. I loved Steins;Gate so I do have a grasp for this genre. I just really don’t know how to react with such games. Delving to it, I discovered that it is a hit in Japan. Thats why the Vita thrived there; Its because of women playing Otome on the road. There is even a guide dedicated for such genre. That’s how popular the games are in Japan.
So why am I ranting? Because no other new games were released physically in the Philippines aside from Otome games! It literally killed it here and since piracy has already reached the Vita, I don’t think we will see a new game.
Will I give it a try? Only when drunk and nothing left to lose, I might. 🙂
